FOURTH ANNUAL MOUNT DORA ART CAR WEEKEND
Historic Downtown Mount Dora brings art to the streets again in the 4th
Annual Art Car Weekend, August 18-19, 2007. Art Cars are working cars that
have been transformed into a rolling piece of art in any way imaginable.
The weekend will kick off with Mount Dora “COOL” on Thursday evening,
August 16 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Art cars arriving early for the weekend
will be on display along with entertainment from the 50’s. The streets of
Mount Dora will be closed for an evening of fun, children’s activities,
music and dancing. Select merchants will be open for shopping.
Friday, you can catch a glimpse of what is to come as the art cars arrive
one by one.
The W.T. Bland Library in Mount Dora will be hosting “Art Cars by Kidz” on
Friday, August 17 at 2:30 p.m. Children will be able to view real art
cars, learn how to make an art car and make a “mini-version” of their own.
Friday evening, the Mt. Dora Center for the Arts will be hosting the
“Grand Re-Opening” of
the Center after remodeling from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Folk artists and their
art will be exhibiting at the Center for the Arts Garden area and The
Lakeside Inn Tea Garden starting Friday and continuing throughout the
weekend. Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Center for the Arts
will hold a Children’s Art Car Workshop.
The official Art Car Parade begins Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jackson and
Donnelly Streets. The parade will travel down Donnelly Street and around
side streets in historic downtown Mount Dora and collectively park for
viewing on Donnelly Street between 4th and 3rd until 4 p.m.
This year’s event in honored to have Radio Disney joining in the
festivities from noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 18. They will be
based at Country Cottage Crafts on the corner of 3rd and Donnelly Street.
The Radio Disney Fun Squad DJ’s lead exciting interactive family fun with
games, prizes, entertainment, music, dancing and goodie bags for all.
Vote for your favorite car in the “People’s Choice Award” by donating
$1.00 or more at collection boxes located by each car. Votes can be cast
until 1 p.m. on Sunday. Proceeds will be donated to Hospice of Lake and
Sumter Counties.
On Sunday, August 19, the cars will rally to Waterman Village, returning
to Downtown Mount Dora by noon where they will be displayed in various
areas around town.

The award announcements and photo session will be held at 3 p.m.
Two 1st Place winners of the 2007 Houston Art Car parade, which is the
world’s oldest and largest Art Car parade, will be participating in the
Mt. Dora 2007 event. They are: FinnJet by Antti Rahko of Lake Worth, FL
and The Stink Bug by Carolyn Stapleton of Orlando, FL
Newcomers to the event this year are Bubble Truck by Sonny Fenwick of New
Albany, IN; bien5 by Barbara Nicolazzo of Gulfport, FL; Carsmos by Lois
Goodman of Austin, TX; Chariot of Desire by Phil Hollenbeck of Eureka
Spring, AR; Dragon Fire by Paul McRae of Houston, TX;
Holey Mercatoy’d by Tom Stuto of Pomona Park, FL and Mermaid Mobile by
Paulette Perlman of Panama City, FL.
The weekend event is sponsored by the Mount Dora Village Merchants
Association, The City of Mount Dora Coummunity Redevelopment Agency, Lake
County Department of Tourism and Business Relations and the Mount Dora
Chamber of Commerce.
